Katz Dermatology on Rosacea

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic, long-term, skin condition which commonly affects the face, but in rare cases, it could also affect the eyes. It is characterized by involving the central region of the face which could cause redness or short-period flushing. Some people experience bumps and pimples on the portions of their faces that experience redness. It commonly affects adults in between 30 to 50 years old, dominantly those with fair skin.

According to general dermatologists rosacea, like vitiligo, is neither contagious nor life-threatening but may cause confidence and social issues.

What causes Rosacea?

According to Dr. Matthew Katz, the exact cause of rosacea is still a medical mystery though some dermatological theories and studies links the skin condition to genetic factors, gastrointestinal diseases and circulatory problems.

Is there a cure for Rosacea?

There is no yet cure for rosacea as of the moment but there are various dermatology services and treatments, especially in general dermatology and in some cases surgical dermatology, that will help slow the progression or control the condition. There are also cosmetic dermatology products available such as antibacterial washes and creams that could also help on treating the condition.

I think I have Rosacea, what should I do?

Most people confuse having an acne to rosacea, so we strongly recommend you to schedule an appointment to your trusted dermatologist or skin expert to clarify and have the proper treatment and medications for your condition.
